More Re: NAFTA...

Hopefully, you read Life with Lynnie (LwL) yesterday.  If you didn't, I would suggest you do so, today.

If you did, I'm sure you will understand that the North America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) is being renegotiated.

If you did, then you'll also realize that I mentioned that not everyone in Canada benefited from NAFTA.  Some people suffered.  Suffered... bigtime!

How do I know this?

Well, I have been a Realtor since 1988.  I didn't always live and work, here in Windsor, ON, Canada, where I live now, but I was living here in 1994, when NAFTA began.

What happened here in my part of Canada due to NAFTA, truly hurt people.  And, businesses.

At that time, many other Realtors and I actually had to show many, many, many, many business buildings in an effort to try and sell them.  Most were vacant, since the business shut down, and people became unemployed.

Some were sold here in Essex County, but many were not sold at that time.

Why?  What happened?

Well, when NAFTA began, then companies here in Canada, no longer had to have locations within our country, if they wanted to sell items in Canada that they built/created.  You see, before NAFTA happened, our Canadian government insisted this happen.  So, employment happened in a good way.

Please understand that companies that no longer had to be located here in our portion of Canada, decided to leave.  They shut down, here... and moved to other areas in other countries; or, just shut down here in Canada, because they truly no longer needed to be located here.

This meant that when many of those companies left Canada, then other companies that were supportive of those previously Canadian located companies, ended up shutting down.  Or, laying off people.

Yes, many, many, many people lost their jobs.

Maybe not everywhere in Canada.  But, definitely here in my area.

This has had such a negative result for our area, that our properties here in Windsor and/or the rest of Essex County, are not as expensive as the majority of the rest of Canada.

Why?

Because there was an extensive amount of unemployment that happened, due to what NAFTA had done to allow companies to leave our part of Canada.

So many people have become hurt.  Hurt in various ways, definitely due to NAFTA.

Now, with the renegotiation being done, I am praying that mercy will happen.  Yes, mercy done by those involved with governments who are negotiating.

After all, we truly need mercy.  And, God wants us all to be merciful.

Just as we read, in Luke 6:36, "Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful,"

Amen!  God wants us to be merciful, for He is merciful to us!

For this, I am thankful.

And, always will be.

Until next time...
