Happy Victoria Day!

Here on Life with Lynnie (LwL), on days like this I take time to celebrate.

Celebrate what, today?

Victoria Day!

Yes, I know...
Victoria Day
is
supposed to
be
celebrated
on
May 24th!

Why?
Because that's
when
Queen Victoria's
birthday was!

Even so,
today is
being celebrated
as
Victoria Day
because it is
Monday,
which means
we celebrate
Victoria Day
by making it
a
long-weekend!

As a child,
we all learned
to sing a song
regarding
Victoria Day.

Here's the lyrics
I recall:

The 24th of May
is the Queen's birthday,
if we don't have a holiday,
we'll all run away.
The 24th of May
is the Queen's birthday,
if we don't have a holiday,
we'll all run away.

When I checked it out
on the internet,
I found that they quoted
the lyrics as being
slightly different.

Check it out
on this link by
theglobeandmail.com, entitled
Victoria Day: responsible
rule and firecrackers:

Even though today
is only the 23rd of May
and not the 24th,
it is a Canadian holiday!

While some people would say
that this is a pagan holiday,
I must say I agree...
except for the fact that
we are not honouring
Queen Victoria as a god.

Thinking of this,
brought to mind
1 Corinthians 8:1,
"Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth."

Yes, we know we sometimes
 have touching things
offered unto idols.
But,
Queen Victoria
was not an idol.
Knowledge puffeth up,
but charity edifieth.
In other words,
Knowledge puffeth up,
but love instructs.

And, this day, has been
celebrated
by those who loved
Queen Victoria.

Of course,
if you know me
and many others
who have honoured
Kings and Queens
who originally
looked after our
countries,
you'll know that
even today,
I adore,
Queen Elizabeth!

Enjoy your day of
celebration!

Happy Victoria Day!

Until next time...
