Today, will be a day like that. At least, for those who live in the Province of Ontario, Canada, like I do.
Recently, ctvnews.ca posted an article online entitled, 5 new traffic laws that will affect drivers as of Sept. 1. Here is a link, so you can read it: http://toronto.ctvnews.ca/5-new-traffic-laws-that-will-affect-drivers-as-of-sept-1-1.2534425.
If you read the article, you will know that the fine for looking at your cell phone, texting or talking on the phone while driving, or even while stopped, will change as of September 1st. The fine will rise from $200 to $1,000. And, the driver will receive more demerit points.
Of course, there are other issues listed in the article. I hope took the time to read it.
I'm discussing this issue, because of something that happened to me, not too long ago.
A few weeks ago, I was driving. I stopped at a traffic light.
Beside me, but slightly back a bit, was a Police car.
While I was stopped, I did something while waiting for the light to change to green, so I could move forward in my driving. I was singing.
The car ahead of me took a few extra seconds to move, after the light turned green. When this happened, I was still stopped.
Traffic in the left lane, beside me began to move.
All except the Police car! Well, I guess I should let you know that it moved slowly up beside me.
There were two (2) Police men in that vehicle. And, they both were watching me, even though they were virtually stopped beside me at that time.
At first, I didn't know why they were looking at me!
Within a few seconds, they moved on. And, didn't pull me over. Praise God!
After praying, I realized that they must have not realized I was singing.
They must have thought I was talking on my cell phone. At least, until they realized the truth about what I was doing.
Thinking about truth, brought to mind John 8:31-32, "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
I realize that His disciples, who believed on Him, were the people Jesus was speaking to.
However, I am a believer in Jesus Christ. A believer who continues in God's Word, the Bible.
So, I also realize that when Jesus said that ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free, what He said did not just apply to them back in that era, but it also applies to me! And, other believers in Jesus!
How do I know this? The Bible tells us that God never changes. He is the same... yesterday, today, and forever.
Yes, Jesus is truly the Way, the Truth, and the Life... and no one comes to the Father, but by Him. However, He also reveals truth to us. In a human way.
Just as He did that day.
I praise God that He revealed truth to those Police officers. For if He hadn't, I may have been pulled over, and given a ticket that would have made me pay a fine. Even though I wasn't doing what was illegal.
My friends, if you are driving in Ontario, please know that the law has changed.
If you are looking at your cell phone, texting and/or reading texts, or even speaking with anyone on your cell phone, you will pay a much higher price. Not just financially, but also with demerit points.
When does the change in the law begin? Today! September 1st.
May God bless each of you, as you follow the law.
By doing so, you will protect yourselves. And, others!
No matter what, please... be careful.
Please, realize that even if you are not using your cell phone, you may be stopped by the Police, and possibly even falsely accused.
Especially, if you are singing, quoting scripture or poetry that you feel you need to speak about. Or, if you are eating, chewing gum, or talking to a baby, or pet in your vehicle, that the Police cannot see. Even though you have freedom to do any of this.
May God protect each of you!
Until next time...
