Do This!

As I've discussed in the past here on Life with Lynnie (LwL), the first SONday of each month is when we who worship God together, celebrate communionThe Lord's Supper.

This past Sunday, was no different.  :)

Once again, I was asked to give the scripture reading.  I did.  And, felt blessed being able to participate in the worship service, even if it was in a truly minor way!

When it came time to prepare to partake in The Lord's Supper, our pastor read scripture, and discussed what communion is.  And, why we celebrate it.  Just as he does, whenever we participate in this part of our worship service.

What I am truly grateful for, is the fact that our pastor does this.

Some people may truly not understand what communion is.  And, why we do it.  In addition, they may not be aware as to whether or not they should proceed in taking communion, with the majority who do.

And of course, some people may think that they should not join in the celebration of The Lord's Supper, if they do not normally worship with us.

The reality is that the communion table is not our church's table.  It is our Lord's table.  So, non-members and/or visitors are welcome to participate.

So, whoever is trusting in our Lord, Jesus Christ... is welcome to join with those who are honouring Him.

Yes, we are honouring our Lord, by taking communion.  We are doing this in remembrance of Him.

Just as He told us to do, in 1 Corinthians 11:24-28, "And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup."

What a wonderful feeling it is for me, whenever I take communion.  Whenever I partake of the bread, that represents Jesus' body.  And, whenever I partake of the grape juice that is representative of Jesus' blood.

It does my heart good to join with my brothers and sisters in the Lord, who also want to honour and remember Jesus, and the work He did on the cross... to save us.  Thank You, Lord... for providing for us a way to do this!

The thing to remember, is that God expects our obedience.

Yes, He is love.  But, He also commands us in various forms of life, to do what He says.

This, is a topic of discussion for another time.

It's enough to say that I'm grateful for being able to honour my Lord, Jesus Christ, by remembering Him, by being obedient and doing what we have been commanded to do.  Thank You, for leading us, Lord!

Until next time...
