As you are fully aware, today is my Lord's day! SONday, is the day when I go meet with my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, to worship God.
If you've read Life with Lynnie (LwL) over the past few weeks, you'll know that rather than worshipping with my own church family, I've been worshipping at different churches. Today, was no different.
This morning, I worshipped at a church that my now deceased husband Gordon, worshipped at a few times, before we were married.
Gordon didn't make it his permanent church of choice, but he did enjoy being there on the few occasions he worshipped, there. After all, he was raised Brethren. And, this church is a Brethren group.
Windsor Gospel Hall, at 644 Partington Ave., Windsor, is a small church; here's a LINK, to read more. During this morning's service of the breaking of bread, I sat near the back, where I was instructed to sit. Prayers, singing, and Bible reading filled the majority of the worship time. Towards the end of the meeting, the breaking of bread and the drinking of wine, took place.
Most other church groups call this Communion, but not here.
When the bread was passed around, I was not offered any. In fact, no one in the area where I was seated, was offered a chance to partake.
This didn't surprise me, because the Brethren only allow those they consider to be in fellowship, to partake in the breaking of bread and the drinking of wine.
It certainly was different from what I am used to, considering that everyone sang a capella (without music accompaniment). Even so, I enjoyed worshipping with the group.
Before I left, I did what I needed to do. I spoke with a couple of people regarding the Women of Influence's upcoming women's conference, in November and left an information sheet for them to post.
Later, I did a couple of things, and did an open house over on Windsor's west side.
As I was picking up my open house signs, I saw Pastor Brad Mayer, of Bible Community Church, that holds worship services at 3440 Bloomfield Rd., Windsor, wave at me. His car was filled with some people he picks up enroute to his worship service.
This reminded me that I hadn't worshipped with his group in a while. So, I made a last minute decision to join in their worship service.
I was glad I did!
It was shocking to walk in and find that a Facebook (FB) friend of mine was in attendance. Apparently, she and her husband have recently been doing what I used to do. They worship at their own church, then some Sundays, they worship with Pastor Brad's group, later in the afternoon!
Yes! I was able to participate in taking Communion, with this group! It made me feel good, to be able to fully participate! I find it not just honouring for me to participate, but I enjoy remembering Jesus, in this manner.
And, of course, God's Word, the Bible, tells us in Luke 22:19-20, "And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you."
How grateful I was, to have been able to participate in the remembrance of my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
And, how blessed I felt, being able to worship today, with both groups of Christians. Hopefully, you worshipped God, with a church family or church group today, as well.
Until next time...
