When I left off in yesterday's Life with Lynnie (LwL) entry, I was on my way to visit a friend, for a swim and a pizza dinner!
A while ago my friend M and I had spent some time together, when she and I enjoyed swimtime and a BBQ at my apartment complex one day, and an instant replay luncheon over on Peche Island, the following day. If you read that entry, you'll know that we were joined in our picnic area by a rather large raccoon that made my blood pressure rise! :) or :( Whichever you prefer!
As I've written in the past, when my husband Gordon was still alive, the four (4) of us got together a few times per year, for a visit, where we enjoyed a pizza and salad dinner.
Well, Gordon is no longer here; he's in heaven with Jesus. But, M's granddaughter was. So, M, her husband D and their granddaughter K and I got together at M & D's home, in South Windsor.
They have a lovely inground pool. Until that day, I had never before seen it. It was gorgeous!
One reason I had never been in their pool was because I have my own pool where I live, so there's not much need for using friend's pools. However, when M suggested us meeting that day, she suggested we relax in the pool; then, D would go pick up pizza from our favourite pizza place (it's a restaurant, not a pizzeria!).
This sounded good to me! :)
Prior to changing into our swimwear, M suggested we place our toes into the pool, to see if it was warm enough. Unlike the pool at my apartment building, M's pool is unheated. Normally, in summer the temperature would be fine, but with the lower temps and rain over the prior few days, the water temp was rather low.
A quick dip of one of each of our feet was all it took for us to decide to not enter the pool.
Being a sunny day, and being a child, M's granddaughter K insisted she didn't care if the pool was cool. So, she went in to the water and enjoyed it, immensely.
We sat in their covered area and watched K splash around. To be honest, this was nicer in some ways, than if we had been in the pool, together!
D let us know no one answered the phone at the restaurant where we normally get pizza from. After a short discussion as to whether they were closed for vacation or just too busy to answer it, as had happened once previously, D set off to pick up the main part of our meal.
M and I talked about how we had looked forward to this, all week!
Then, D arrived home. With Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC)! And, all the fixin's of course!
Once again, M and I looked at each other and laughed. Murphy was still alive and with us! :)
Seriously, my visit with M and her family was wonderful. As was dinner! Thank you, so very much for having me as your guest. I truly enjoyed the food and fellowship!
You know what God says about plans! In Proverbs 19:21 we are told, "There are many plans in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD,
that shall stand."
As humans, we can make plans, time and time again. But, if our plans aren't part of God's greater plan for our lives, they won't happen.
God is in control. Not us.
He is not a genie in a bottle, waiting to fulfill our every wish. He knows the end from the beginning, and alone knows the plans He has for us. Big, or small.
Well, I must add before ending today's entry, that M, D and I joked much about how our plans turned out to be much different than we had arranged.
So much so, that we decided that the next time we plan to get together for dinner and a visit, we'll plan for a KFC dinner, so that maybe God can bless us with the reverse once again. Our favourite pizza!
Until next time...
