While Easter isn't about a bunny, in past years, he usually did come to me, bringing sweet treats; but, not this year, so I suppose one could say I hadn't been very good. But, then again, we aren't judged by God by how good we are. While some people think that we will be judged by our deeds, God's word, the Bible tells us that our righteousness is as filthy rags.
I am a sinner. God's Word tells us that all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I'm like you and everyone else. And, you're like me. Some may say they aren't a sinner. Some believe that if they haven't committed some horrible crime, they are okay. I ask them if they ever disobeyed their parents, ever lied, had an evil thought? Ever lusted over someone? Ever told a little white lie? Ever made a personal call, while on work time? Ever taken a pen from someone? How about a paperclip? Ever hated someone? Of course, if you are honest, you will admit that you have done at least one of these.
Some people think that some sin is better/worse than other sin. This is not true. God tells us in His Word that sin is sin. It doesn't matter whether someone has murdered, raped or told a little white lie or stolen a paper clip, it doesn't matter. Whether considered a 'big' or 'tiny' sin, by human standards, it's all the same to God. For Him, sin is sin. Period.
He hates sin. God cannot look upon sin.
One day you and I will stand before God, in judgement. On that day, the primary question will be whether or not we have salvation through Jesus Christ. Has His blood washed us clean? If so, our name will be listed in the Lamb's Book of Life. If God finds our name listed there, because we have trusted in Jesus for our salvation, we will be rewarded for our good deeds.
The worst part is that those who have not trusted in Jesus for their salvation, will not have their names listed in the Lamb's Book of Life. What will happen to these people? God's Word tells us that they will be thrown into the Lake of Fire, will be separated from God for eternity. It's not good. Let's face it, an eternity in hell, with no chance of escape is not good. Who would want this? No one I know. Yet, I know people who refuse to accept Jesus as their Saviour. Poor them.
On Good Friday, I wrote about Jesus' suffering and His crucifixion. However, the human, physical pain is not the only suffering Jesus endured. God's plan included Jesus to suffer for the sin of the world, for all who will believe on Him. 2Corinthians 5:21 tells us, "For He hath made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him". Wow! As a human being, I can hardly even begin to understand what this means; but, it obviously is a very heavy load.
Yes, Jesus suffered on Good Friday. Today, on Resurrection Day, He arose! He is alive, in heaven, with God the Father!
Praise God for this! For it is because of Jesus' resurrection, that we know we can have eternal life. Had Jesus remained in the grave, it would have meant that we have no hope, for if He wasn't resurrected, then we wouldn't be either. If Christ has not been raised, our faith is useless and we are still in our sin.
This is the good news! Christ HAS risen! He is alive! Because He lives, we can, too.
How do we know He was resurrected? Well, for starters, there's the empty tomb. It was guarded so no one could steal Jesus' body, yet it was found empty.
There were eye witnesses. Not just Jesus' followers, either. People in various places at various times, saw Jesus. Hundreds saw Him. Many wrote about this. Check it out for yourself. It's history; not just religious history. But, history.
I thank and praise God for His plan of salvation, that He gave to us, freely. I thank and praise Jesus, for being obedient to God's plan, even being obedient to death on the cross.
Today, was a busy day for me; but, today is not about me. It's about Jesus, His death and most importantly, His resurrection.
Because He lives, I live, too. And, so can you. Believe on/trust in Jesus and in Jesus alone, and nothing else, for your salvation and you will be saved. Hope to see you in heaven!
Until next time...
